Are you a single mother struggling to provide a better future for yourself and your children?
We offer more than a safe place to call home.
Affordable Housing · Case Management
Life Skills Training · Financial Literacy
Therapeutic Supports · Educational Opportunities
The Transformational Housing program helps single mothers (or expectant mothers) between the ages of 18 – 35 take control of their lives and work toward self-sufficiency.
Women join our program for many reasons. You may be in crisis due to domestic violence, addiction, job loss, homelessness, an unplanned pregnancy or another difficult situation.
But you are not alone.
The Front Door Agency has been helping women like you transition from crisis to self-sufficiency for more than 30 years.
Our unique three-phase program allows you to work toward financial independence. Families are given the opportunity to move through the 3 phases as they accomplish certain milestones in the program.
Phase I: Stabilize
Phase I is intended to provide structure and security to women and children who may have lived in chaos or experience homelessness before entering the program.
During Phase I, families move into the Norwell Home, an eight-unit safe, cooperative living environment in Nashua. While each family gets their own suite with two bedrooms and a bathroom, the shared kitchen, living and recreational ensure that families have the support of others who are also taking their first steps toward independence.
Your dedicated case manager will help you put supportive services in place (like public assistance and childcare) and set educational or career goals to guide you on your path toward financial independence.
Phase II: Transform
When families enter Phase 2 of the program, they move from the Norwell Home into their own apartment but still receive the comprehensive case management provided in Phase 1 as they continue to work toward their educational or professional goals. Affordable housing is provided in Caroline’s House (4 units with a fenced-in yard), Victory House (5 units with onsite parking and a fenced-in yard).
Phase III: Flourish
Families move into the final phase of the program when they complete their chosen educational or job skills training program and need a little extra support as they enter the workforce. We continue to provide affordable housing at our Amherst Street Site (2 units) and support services as mothers begin preparing for financial independence, but rent is closer to market rent.
“The support I received in the Transformational Housing program changed my life. I was held accountable, but able to work at my own pace toward independence. I truly feel like the program works for you if you work for it.
The situations that myself and other moms in the program are in when they come to the Front Door Agency do not reflect who we are as people. We all want good lives for ourselves and our children and this program gives us the opportunity to create that.”

Education is the key to success. The women in our Transformational Housing program receive life skills training (including financial literacy) and therapeutic supports to help them overcome personal barriers to success. They also have the opportunity to pursue educational or career goals, many graduating from the program with college degrees or professional certificates that drastically increase their earning potential.
