Housing Intake Support Specialist

 

The Housing Intake Support Specialist has the responsibility of accepting requests for assistance and screening
for eligibility through the Agency’s direct service and holiday programs. This position will greet guests and answer
all direct service calls and will be the main initial point of contact for someone requesting our services. This vital
team member will work closing with the Housing Advocate and Housing Stability Program Manager to ensure
timely processing of applications by ensuring all documents are received for assistance that will ultimately help
families secure and/or maintain housing. He/she will provide referrals and assist those requesting services on how
to navigate the housing/homeless system.
The Housing Intake Support Specialist will also provide critical support to the Housing Stability Team wi th
management of client data into the Agency’s client database, and will assist with the preparation of monthly
statistical and outcome reports. He/she will also oversee volunteers that will assist with coverage of the reception
area in your absence. The Housing Intake Support Specialist will also oversee the holiday assistance application
process which will require additional hours during that time (Oct-Dec).

  • SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Housing Intake Support Specialist will provide the initial assessment for appropriately determining the best
    housing assistance program the client qualifies for that will ultimately lead to securing and sustaining permanent
    housing for those in need. Specific Duties include:
    • Review applications for assistance and work directly with applicants to ensure completeness.
    • Review all supporting documentation required for accuracy and work with applicants on obtaining
    necessary supporting documents.
    • Understand the homeless and housing services available in our community to provide proper referrals.
    • Provide Housing Advocate and Housing Stability Program Manager assistance with client follow up
    needed to effectively and timely assist families in need.
    • Oversee reception volunteers to ensure in your absence they provide the same information to
    applicants.
    • Greet applicants with respect, dignity and compassion.
    • Oversee the log of applications to ensure timely response to inquiries.
    • Enter data into client software(s).
    • Work closely with the Housing Stability Program Compliance Coordinator to ensure requests for
    services determined by Housing Stability Program Manager and Housing Advocate are in compliance
    with various grant sources.
    • Maintain and update the referral resources log.
    • When applicable, scheduling clients for appointments with the Housing Stabili ty Team.
    • Represent the Agency in the Continuum of Care in the absence of other Housing Stability Team
    members.
    • Attend HMIS and Agency client data trainings as indicated
    • Maintain the highest level of conf identiality
    • Enhance job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications;
    maintaining personal networks.
    • Participate in weekly staf f and team meetings.
    • Lead the Agency’s holiday assistance application process
  • EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate’s degree required • a minimum of two years of direct human services experience or lived experience
  • Organized, creative, highly analytical and have excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • • Strong computer skills
  • General flexibility and ease of movement between multiple projects
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to think strategically
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that is effective with a broad diversity of audiences
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good, sound judgment.  Bilingual is a plus.

F.L.S.A Status
Considered part-time at 20-25-hours/week; non-exempt
Estimated General Hours: M/T/W/Th between the hours of 9-4; F-9-12 With additional hours required outside
these during Oct-Dec f or holiday registrations processing and f or participation in staf f education/retreats.
