Tina’s Story: Homeless Mom of 3 Becomes Engineer
“Two years ago, I made the decision to leave my abusive husband to make a new life for me and my three kids. But it was impossible to do alone. I worked full-time at a nearby factory, but it was a temporary job with no benefits. I could barely make ends meet, never mind save money for a new place to live.
I had no one to turn to and nowhere to go.
That’s when I reached out to the Front Door Agency for help. I joined the Transformational Housing program and moved into the Norwell Home. The first few weeks were really hard. I didn’t have custody of my kids and I lost my temporary job at the factory. I felt so discouraged, but my case manager helped me realize that, even though I can’t change the past, I can create a better future for myself. So I enrolled in the Microelectronics Boot Camp at Nashua Community College.
For the first time in my life, I had options.
Education was the key to my success and taking this step gave me confidence. I now work full-time as a Quality Control Engineer at BAE Systems and have custody of my kids. We live in permanent housing and it’s my goal to save up for a house of our own.
The Front Door Agency changed my life!”
