“Because of the help I received from the Front Door Agency, I am stronger and more self-reliant. ” Iris shared.
The Front Door Agency is pleased to announce the launch of its annual fundraiser to help local families overcome and avoid homelessness. In its 37th year, the Agency is one of the largest providers of prevention assistance in the Greater Nashua area. As more families and individuals are experiencing the threat of homelessness than in previous years, the Front Door Agency is proud to have assisted more than 1,800 families and individuals in the community last year.
As the demand for services continues to increase, the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute estimates one of six New Hampshire families have an annual income below $35,000 per year, and one and four families with an annual income below $50,000. This statistic coupled with the critically low statewide rental vacancy rate of 0.6% indicates the Front Door’s services are needed now more than ever. Iris, a resilient single mother of two young children, faced a series of devastating challenges that led her into homelessness. Iris found hope when she applied to the Front Door Agency’s Transformational Housing Program—and was accepted, opening the door to a brighter future for her family.
“The Front Door Agency has been a blessing, providing not just affordable housing, but assistance in finding childcare, covering counseling expenses, offering case management and encouragement, and ensuring my children received gifts through the Holiday Program to make the holidays brighter,” Iris shared. Iris applied for a NH Habitat for Humanity home and after contributing 350 hours of sweat equity, she and her children will be moving into their forever home this year.
“As the demand for our services continues to rise, we are witnessing the devastating impacts of lack of affordable housing, the continuing decrease in vacancy rates, and low-paying jobs,” said Maryse Wirbal, CEO of the Front Door Agency. “With surging rent prices and ongoing inflation, families are struggling to make ends meet, and many are losing their homes. Our programs are designed to help keep people in their homes and support those who have lost theirs by connecting them with the resources they need to regain their independence and stability.”
