Front Door Agency Awarded $125,000 to Address Rental Crisis in Greater Nashua

From TD Charitable Foundation's Housing For Everyone Initiative

The Front Door Agency is one of 32 recipients of TD Charitable Foundation’s Annual Housing For Everyone grant program. As the largest homelessness prevention provider for Greater Nashua after local welfare services, the Front Door Agency will use these funds to help individuals and families avoid homelessness through its Housing Stability Program. This program offers assistance with most housing-related costs, interest-free security deposit loans and rapid rehousing.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a disproportionate impact on some of Greater Nashua’s most vulnerable residents, including renters. As federal unemployment benefits and the eviction moratorium expire, demand for services through the Front Door Agency’s Housing Stability Program has increased significantly.

Jess, a single mother of three, faced eviction after being furloughed at work as a result of the pandemic. The stimulus checks she received helped, but still left a big gap after months without a paycheck. The Agency worked with her and her landlord to catch up on back rent. Jess is now back to work and able to support her family again. Another client that received an interest-free security deposit loan from the Agency said, “without such a loan, getting into my own place would not have been possible. I will be forever grateful.”

“The Front Door Agency believes that every person has the right to safe and secure housing,” says Doug Howard, Housing Stability Program Director. “With permanent housing secured, families can focus on rebuilding their lives to become self-sufficient again. Last year, more than 90% of families that received prevention services were able to maintain their housing and utilities. The funds we receive from the Housing for Everyone grant program will help us meet increasing demand and continue making a lasting, positive impact on families in our community, through the current pandemic and beyond.”

In total, TD Charitable Foundation awarded $4.9 million for the 2020 Housing For Everyone program, as part of the more than $20 million that TD has allocated to help strengthen community resilience and COVID-19 recovery through the TD Community Resilience Initiative. “The Front Door Agency has developed an initiative to help families and individuals impacted by COVID-19 avoid eviction, obtain safe, affordable housing and achieve self-sufficiency,” said Sheryl McQuade, Regional President, Northern New England, TD Bank. “Being awarded the 15th Annual Housing For Everyone grant is an acknowledgement of the agency’s dedication to ensuring an inclusive recovery from the pandemic.”
