Tina's Story: Homeless Mom of 3 Becomes Engineer
"Two years ago, I made the decision to leave my abusive husband to make a new life for me and my three kids. But it was impossible to do alone. I worked full-time at a nearby factory, but it was a temporary job with no benefits. I could barely make ends meet, never mind save money for a new place to live.
I had no one to turn to and nowhere to go.
That’s when I reached out to the Front Door Agency for help. I joined the Transformational Housing program and moved into the Norwell Home. The first few weeks were really hard. I didn’t have custody of my kids and I lost my temporary job at the factory. I felt so discouraged, but my case manager helped me realize that, even though I can’t change the past, I can create a better future for myself. So I enrolled in the Microelectronics Boot Camp at Nashua Community College.
For the first time in my life, I had options.
Education was the key to my success and taking this step gave me confidence. I now work full-time as a Quality Control Engineer at BAE Systems and have custody of my kids. We live in permanent housing and it’s my goal to save up for a house of our own.
The Front Door Agency changed my life!"
Other Families Are Still Struggling
Sadly, there are many more families like Tina's in Greater Nashua who need our assistance to become self-sufficient.
Last year, 1,800 individuals came to us for help, seeking to get on the path to self-sufficiency. They may have suffered a job loss, divorce, illness or other major event that upset the balance of family life. We are able to provide the tools, resources and case management they need to change their lives, but we can't do this important work alone. Your generosity is vital to the work we do and to the health of our entire community. Thank you for your gift to our Annual Fund. Together, we are transforming lives!
