Ready to Rent was developed in order to educate the community to understand important elements of being a successful tenant. The training begins with understanding the three main components landlords need in their tenants: paying rent in full and on time, taking care of the property, and following the lease agreement.

In order to address these pillars of being a successful renter, participants are educated in the following ways:

Paying your rent on time and in full

      • Create and maintain a budget
      • Moving costs
      • Saving for security deposit
      • Debt reduction
      • Increasing income
      • Decreasing spending

 

Following the lease agreement

      • How to read and understand a lease
      • Acknowledging responsibility
      • Rent and financial obligations
      • Rules on property use
      • Pet policies
      • Alterations and modifications
      • Utilities and services
      • Safety and emergency awareness
      • Move in and Move our procedures
      • Legal rights and responsibilities

Taking Care of the property

      • Performing basic maintenance
      • Reporting maintenance needs promptly
      • Communicating respectfully
      • Responsibility for guest’s actions
      • Keeping the property clean
      • Caring for outdoor spaces
      • Preventing pests
      • Preventing damage

Participants will attend six sessions, for a total of 12 hours of education.
