There’s No Place Like Home
The Front Door believes preventing the incidence of homelessness is critical to the well-being of our community and families. Having a place to call home for all our community members is vital to the economic vibrancy of the region. The most economical and humane strategy for addressing homelessness for those at imminent risk is to prevent it in the first place. Providing one-time or short-term rent or mortgage subsidies, utility subsidies, legal assistance, and housing placement services are critical in order to reduce the high cost of providing services care and to eliminate the disruption that results when people become homeless.
Our Service Area
In addition to Nashua residents, we are able to assist those living in the following New Hampshire towns: Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Lyndeborough, Merrimack, Milford, Mt. Vernon, and Wilton.
The Nashua Continuum of Care addresses prevention as a key component in reducing the number of homeless in our community in its 10-year plan to end homelessness.
Rent & Utility Services Available
We provide the following services to those at risk of homelessness:
- Rental assistance with back rent, if it is determined the family can support the housing going forward.
- Utility assistance with shut-off notices and payment arrangements with utility companies, if it is determined the family can support the housing costs going forward.
- Home Heating Fuel, oil and propane
- Legal assistance referrals
The Front Door is one of the largest providers in the Greater Nashua area of prevention assistance to families facing eviction or utility disconnection. Its main population is serving those who do not qualify for governmental fuel assistance programs or who do not already reside or receive public housing assistance, and who have for circumstances beyond their control find themselves at risk of homelessness. Household budgets are reviewed and case management services are also provided to those seeking prevention assistance.
Ultimate Outcome: Families Remain in permanent housing & maintains all housing expenses.
Target: 75% of participants are able to remain in their permanent housing & stay current with their housing costs for at least six months from receiving assistance avoiding the incidence of homelessness.
